"Controlled Digital Lending: Past, Present, Future"
Controlled Digital Lending (CDL) encompasses practices and technologies that enable libraries to lend digital surrogates of their print materials. It is one approach among a broader set of digital circulation services that include the lending of licensed materials, the distribution of open-access and in copyright materials, and the secure sharing of born-digital materials. This presentation will discuss past and current projects in Controlled Digital Lending, why it matters, and what the future of this practice might entail. The presentation will also solicit audience and expert feedback on current projects in CDL and talk together about how we might advance as a community in the resource-sharing space.

| Guest Speaker from Library Futures Jennie Rose Halperin Jennie Rose Halperin is a digital strategist, community builder, and librarian who serves as Director of Library Futures at the NYU Engelberg Center on Innovation Law and Policy. She is focused on growing the organization and fostering a culture of open, inclusive leadership to support equitable library policy, technology, and advocacy. Jennie has held positions in community, communications, product, and growth at Harvard Law School Library, Creative Commons, Mozilla, and O'Reilly Media and freelanced extensively in facilitation, community, and product growth. A civic enthusiast and perennial volunteer, she has been deeply involved with various initiatives in her home city of Boston and as part of her online work in global information policy. She speaks rusty German and some Spanish. Jennie received her MLS from UNC Chapel Hill as a Carolina Academic Library Associate and her BA from Barnard College of Columbia University. |
