Title: Adventures in Libraryland Licensing: Reading the Fine Print

Presenter: Rita Baladad, Northern Arizona University, E-resources Librarian

Program Description

Reading a vendor license doesn’t have to mirror Alice’s attempt in deciphering the nonsense poem Jabberwocky. Most vendor licenses cover such similar clauses and terms that there are numerous model licenses to help guide the way. Once you have a big picture of the license, it becomes easier to read the fine print and spot curious clauses that don’t quite fit common patterns.

In this session you’ll:

  • Gain awareness of this vendor license big picture
  • Gain awareness of license “morality” clauses
  • Learn about the origin of one these morality clauses

Presenter Bio

Rita Baladad wrangles e-resources in the Collections and Discovery Services unit at Northern Arizona Cline Library.

Anali Perry, ASU Library / Head, Open Science & Scholarly Communication

Ellen Dubinsky, University of Arizona Scholarly Communication Librarian

Program Description

In 2018, librarian-led communities in four states formed Copyright First Responders cohorts, with training led by founder Kyle Courtney. The Western Copyright Alliance (WCA) was born! Composed of CFR Pacific Northwest, California, and Arizona, the WCA is poised to extend copyright education across the entire western region. Our plans involve sharing resources and our expertise to provide training, build communities of practice, and create a network of experts.

  • How to get involved in WCA
